Driving in Madeira is an experience within itself, expect your bumper to be kissed everyday, as safe distances in the highway code don´t apply here. Here are a few points which you need to be aware of.
These are free for alls, just get on it and hope for the best, no one signals so you don´t know where they are going.

comes out in them. Patience seems to leave them.

middle of the road while drivers have a good old
chin wag with each other, whilst seeing a friend
in the opposite lane in their car.
Never happens, car manufacturers are actually thinking of cutting costs by removing the indicators as this is wasted plastic.
If there is an accident expect all the car drivers in front and behind to get out and have a look. Deck chairs and tables appear from nowhere, this is reality TV.
